La littérature féminine au Japon, ou comment apprivoiser les fantômes

On s’intéresse, dans cet essai, à un motif récurrent dans la littérature féminine contemporaine au Japon, celui des personnages fantomatiques qui hantent les héroïnes, les accompagnant dans le deuil et la perte des repères. Ces êtres fantastiques, liés au monde obscur de la mort, guident les protagonistes dans des épreuves initiatiques et consolatrices. Ce circuit de la résilience, sur le plan de la fiction, permet ainsi une renégociation avec les difficultés du réel – autrement dit, et contrairement aux apparences, l’acceptation de l’ordre social. L’œuvre de Kawakami Hiromi illustre ce propos.

In this essay, we shall focus on a recurrent pattern found in Japanese contemporary women literature, which consists in ghostly figures haunting the heroins, accompanying their mourning and the lost of their landmarks. These fantastic figures, linked to the dark world of the death, guide the protagonists through initiatic and comforting ordeals. On the level of fiction, this way of resilience allows renegotiations with the obstacles of the reality – i.e. and contrary to appearances, leads to the acceptation of the social order. Kawakami Hiromi’s novels will provide here some illustration.

この論文では、現代日本女性文学におけるある潜在的なモチーフに注目する。それは、女性主人公たちの周辺に出没する幽霊的人物の存在で、死別や喪失を支える役割を果たしている。死という暗黒の世界と繋がっているこれらの幻想的な存在は主人公達に通過儀礼の経験を与え、癒しを約束する。この癒しの循環は、フィクションの枠の中で、現実の困難を乗り越える力を発揮し、換言するならば、外観とは裏腹に、社会的秩序の受理という方向にストーリーを持っていく。川上弘美の作品の例をもって、参照したい。
