Tristram Shandy and the vortex of creation. In Tristram Shandy, which may be read as an attempt to set up an absolute equivalence between writing and life through a denial of temporality and sexuality, the notion of representation is subverted to the advantage of the notion of creation. Tristram Shandy’s will-to-omnipotence implies intervals of erasure to which, among other examples, the famous white page is testimony.
