Des ateliers de pierres à fusil de Méhémet Ali au Ouadi Sannour (Galâlâ Nord)

Nous présentons ici les résultats d’une étude menée sur des fabriques de pierres à fusil du début du xixe siècle au Ouadi Sannour (Galâlâ Nord). La découverte de ces sites s’est effectuée dans le cadre d’une mission Ifao menée ces dix dernières années sur les complexes miniers d’époque pharaonique, situés à proximité. La description générale de ces ateliers attribués aux armées de Méhémet Ali met l’accent sur ce phénomène technique jusqu’à présent inédit en Égypte. Cette étude interroge à travers les industries lithiques l’origine et l’étendue des savoir-faire au service d’une production centralisée dans la zone des déserts, faisant ainsi écho aux dynamiques d’implantation des sites voisins d’époque pharaonique.

In this article, we present the results of a study carried out on gunflint factories from the beginning of the 19th century at Wadi Sannur (Northern Galâlâ). The exploration of these sites was carried out over the last ten years in the framework of an IFAO mission on the mining complexes of the pharaonic period located nearby. The general description of these workshops, attributed to the armies of Mehemet Ali, emphasizes this technical phenomenon hitherto undocumented in Egypt. This study questions, through the lithic industries, the origin and extent of the know-how used in a centralized production in the desert zone, which shows similarities with dynamics of the establishment of neighboring sites of the pharaonic period.

نعرض هنا نتائج دراسة أجريت على مصانع صوان البنادق في مطلع القرن التاسع عشر بوادي سنّور (الجلالة الشمالية). ويأتي اكتشاف هذه المواقع في إطار مهمة للمعهد الفرنسي للآثار الشرقية أجريت خلال العشر سنوات الأخيرة على مجمعات التعدين في العصر الفرعوني، والتي تقع في مكان قريب من وادي سنّور. ويُرَكِّز التوصيف العام لهذه الورش المنسوبة إلى جيوش محمد علي على هذه الظاهرة التقنية التي لم يسبق لها مثيل في مصر. ومن خلال الصناعات الحجرية، تتساءل هذه الدراسة عن جذور المهارات الفنية وامتدادها في خدمة مركزية التصنيع داخل المنطقة الصحراوية، مما يعكس حركة إنشاء المواقع المجاورة من العصر الفرعوني.
