In a landmark article, Linda K. Hughes deplored the choice of the Wellesley Index to British Periodicals’ editors to exclude poetry for its unfortunate consequences on scholars’ apprehension of the reception of Victorian poetry. Arguably, poets published in periodicals by choice, strategy, and periodicals published poetry out of editorial and aesthetic interests.
