A collective of artists from Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Brussels, and beyond, the short-lived Cobra group, wanted from the very start (1948) to create an alternative Western art (or ‘West-art’). Its activities raised essential questions about the new connections and hard borders in postwar Europe.
