A physical reaction: locating the contemporary photobook in post-situations

Alors que le photobook s’est beaucoup développé depuis le début du nouveau millénaire, l'intérêt s'est porté sur son histoire. Mais une faible attention a été accordée au rôle joué par le web 2.0 dans le processus de développement de son écologie spécifique. Ici, les contextes post-numérique et post-photographique seront en revanche présentés comme déterminants. L'histoire récente du photobook ne paraît pas seulement avoir été facilitée par les technologies en réseau, mais en être le produit direct.

As the photobook rose to prominence in the new millennium attention was given to its histories and production. Quiet recognition was given to the role web 2.0 played in supporting a medium-specific ecology but deeper questioning of the relationship didn't materialise. Here, post-digital and post-photographic contexts are presented as key to both the successes and limitations of the medium. Both post-situations attempt to give depth to the notion that the recent history of the photobook has not only been facilitated by, but is a direct product of, networked technologies.
