The 2021 SEAC conference in Avignon—‘Disrupting’ the City: Urban Cris(e)s in Contemporary British Literature and Art’—was three years in the making and almost never happened. While the irony of a conference on disruption/crisis being cancelled because of a pandemic will not escape our readers, the fact that it could finally be held in presentia was a tremendous relief and joy to the convenors and its participants.
