This issue of EchoGéo investigates the environmental, social, economic and political consequences of hurricanes on territories and their management. The French neologism “cycloné” (or “hurricaned”) appeared on social networks in 2017 after hurricane Irma hit the West Indies. The word refers to the destruction caused by category 4 or 5 hurricanes, but also to their victims’ challenging experiences.
