The present volume may be most usefully approached as an inquiry into the practical or “heuristic” value of the notion of crossroads in cultural and historical studies. Common sense indicates that the term must certainly prove useful to describe the coming together of people and ideas, and the particular forms of production and effervescence resulting from their interpolation.
