« Manipuler » et co-interpréter les images choc : vers une sémio-poïétique sociale ?

Dans cet article, nous cherchons à comprendre en quoi la manipulation plastique d'une image choc modifie le regard, et donc l'interprétation, tant du chercheur que de ses enquêtés. Dans un contexte de profond renouvellement de l'éducation critique à l'image, nous mobilisons une approche à la croisée des arts visuels et de la sémiotique sociale. Nous avons expérimenté cette dernière auprès d'étudiants de l'Institut régional du travail social de Lorraine sous la forme d'une co-analyse et d'une manipulation plastique d'une image d'un TGV médicalisé transportant des patients en soins intensifs atteints du Covid-19. Cette démarche s'inscrit dans Je cadre du projet de recherche collectif « Interpréter les images choc en temps de crise sanitaire ». Cet article sera l'occasion de rendre compte des principales hypothèses interprétatives ayant émergé de cette enquête ainsi que d'esquisser notre approche hybride, que nous proposons de dénommer « sémio-poïétique sociale ».

ln this article, we seek to understand how the artistic manipulation of a shocking image modifies the look, and therefore the interpretation of both the researcher and his respondents. In a context of profound renewal of critical media education, we mobilize an approach at the crossroads of visual arts and social semiotics. We have experimented this methodology with students at the Regional Institute of Social Work of Lorraine in the form of a co-analysis and artistic manipulation of a photograph showing a medicalized high-speed train transporting intensive care patients suffering from Covid-19, as part of the French collective research project "Interpreting shocking images intimes of sanitary crisis". This article provides an opportunity to report on the main interpretative hypotheses that emerged from this investigation as well as to outline our hybrid approach, which we propose naming "poietic and social semiotics".
