Résumé
We show how Hispanic culture was imbued with a privileged relationship with that of the Muslim world. We try to understand the need for the Orient and how Latin American travelers, dependent on their European readings, proposed an outlook that was not very innovative until the political relations of the 1950s. The case of Sarmiento is emblematic of the search for a model of political-military action transferable to Argentina.
