The other Brittany : revolutionary breton clubs (1789-1795). This study deals with five breton departments and the appendix gives an accurate schedule of their clubs and popular societies. The text comments upon these data, setting forth a geographical distribution which shows the importance of towns, of the network of communications and trade places, as well as the implantation on the coast. Language is not an impediment, as «bretoning Brittany» reveals it self more endowed than gallo land. It brings out networks of influence, defining the oppositions of a political area where lasting choices take shape. The chronology of foundations shows two sequences, a forward one (1790-1791), the other late (year II).

Cette étude porte sur les cinq départements bretons et fournit en annexe un inventaire précis de leurs clubs et sociétés populaires. Le texte commente ces données en présentant une géographie qui fait apparaître l’importance du fait urbain, celle du réseau de communications et des lieux d’échanges, comme de l’implantation littorale. La langue n’est pas un obstacle puisque la Bretagne bretonnante se révèle plus richement dotée que le pays gallo. Des réseaux d’influence se dessinent, précisant les contrastes d’un espace politique où s’esquissent des options durables. La chronologie des fondations met en valeur deux séquences, l’une précoce (1790-91) l’autre tardive (an II).
