Sie führt dazu Arbeiten an, die sich mit den Reaktionen der sozialen Gruppen auf die politischen Probleme, die Frankreich in der zweiten Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts bewegt haben, befafit haben. Gruber proposes to break free of the choices offered by the political and social interpretations of history and, instead, to focus on the social analysis of political attitudes. She gives the example of works which have studied the reactions of social groups to political problems which generated interest in France during the second half of the 18^ century. These works allow for an understanding of how and why the French became both politically conscious and made the Revolution.
