A new light is shed by recent historiography on the reoccupation phase of high altitude Protohistoric sites around the Vth century. More than the expression of a defensive preoccupation, this series of creations on such topographically remarkable sites, might indicate the reorganization of territories inherited from the High Empire city (Schneider 2001, 2007). Often surrounded with ramparts and equipped with a church, these sites seem to be realized by newly-installed powers. The excavations on the la Granède site aim at verifying whether this new model can be applied here ; the church on the barred spur might be a symbol of it.

L’historiographie récente éclaire d’un jour nouveau la phase de réoccupation des sites de hauteur protohistoriques autour du Ve siècle de notre ère. Plus que l’expression d’un souci défensif, cette vague d’implantation d’habitats, sur ces sites topographiques remarquables, pourrait être la marque d’une réorganisation des territoires hérités de la cité du Haut Empire (Schneider 2001, 2007). Souvent entourés de remparts et dotés d’une église, ces sites semblent être l’oeuvre de nouveaux pouvoirs. La reprise des fouilles sur le site de la Granède a pour objet de vérifier si ce nouveau modèle s’applique ici ; l’église présente sur cet «éperon barré » pouvant en être le symbole.
