A gravestone from Caesarea in Mauretania shows a figure-of-eight riding school. The track perfectly fits the riding maneuvers described in Arrian's Táctica and shows that the owner of the gravestone was a drillmaster in the provincial horse guard. Claudian in the fifth century, and Maurice in the sixth, still urge such maneuvers.

Une pierre tombale de Caesarea de Maurétanie représente un manege en forme de huit (ou double volte). La piste en question se prête parfaitement aux exercices de cavalerie décrits dans la Tactique d'Arrien et prouve qu'il s'agissait de la tombe d'un instructeur de la garde à cheval de la province. Claudien au Ve siècle et Maurice au VI e préconisent encore ce type d'exercice.
