Le cas de Sakûmâ montre la nécessité, mais aussi la difficulté de l'utilisation des sources arabes dans une perspective rétrospective pour identifier un site antique inconnu. Plutôt qu'à une forteresse romaine, Sakûmâ pourrait correspondre à une capitale des princes berbères dans la région de Fès ou de Volubilis.
