A post-DUT top-up year in the UK : A guide to the various options offered at IUT Paris

Over the past ten years IUT Paris has tried, through a network of contacts, to develop opportunities for student exchanges and for study extension so as to enable the DUT students to complement their diploma with a further one year in Britain. The growing internationalisation of business and the keen interest of our graduates have convinced us there was a need to be met. The aim of this paper is to describe three options offered : an elaborately-structured double degree BSc / DEST in Informatique, a piggyback version of a double degree BA in Legal and Economic Studies / Licence AES, and the flexible and cost-effective BA Modular Degree. We are also putting into place the well-known but burdensome ECTS. Each of these options has its pros and cons which will be listed here. In providing these various follow-up programmes our aim is to give our students an opportunity to further their training and at the same time improve their language skills.

Au cours des dix dernières années, l'IUT Paris a essayé, grâce à son réseau de contacts, d'offrir un plus grand nombre de possibilités d'échanges et de poursuites d'études à ses étudiants afin de permettre aux détenteurs d'un DUT de compléter une troisième année en Grande-Bretagne. L'internationalisation grandissante des entreprises et l'intérêt très vif de nos étudiants nous ont convaincus que ces besoins devaient être satisfaits. L'objectif de cet article est de décrire trois options offertes : un double diplôme à l'organisation complexe BSc / DEST en Informatique, la version relais d'un double diplôme BA in European Legal and Economic Studies / Licence AES, la licence souple et peu onéreuse BA Modular Degree. Enfin nous mettons en place le système bien connu, mais lourd à gérer : l'ECTS. Chacune de ces options possède ses avantages et inconvénients qui seront présentés ci-dessous. En offrant ces diverses poursuites d'études, notre objectif est de donner à nos étudiants une occasion d'approfondir leur formation et du même coup d'améliorer leurs capacités langagières.
