A critical reading of the archaeological and bibliographical documentation conducted as part of a master’s dissertation has provided a historiographical overview of the research on rural habitation in the Auvergne (France). For the first time a structured catalogue of the Roman villas in the territories of the Arverni and the Vellavi has been proposed. The critical approach to the documentation has led to an empirical typology. In light of this work, it is possible to propose for the first time a cartography of the distribution pattern of the villas. Among the draft thematic conclusions, it has been possible to revisit the Augustonemetum/ Clermont-Ferrand area where the research on villas is focused.

Une étude critique de la documentation archéologique et bibliographique menée dans le cadre d’un Master 2 a permis de réaliser un bilan historiographique de la recherche sur l’habitat rural en Auvergne et de constituer pour la première fois un inventaire méthodique des villas romaines des cités arverne et vellave. Le dépouillement de la documentation a mené à une classification empirique permettant de proposer une spatialisation du semis des villas. Parmi les études thématiques ébauchées à cette occasion, il a été possible de revenir sur le territoire proche d’Augustonemetum/ Clermont-Ferrand où se concentrent les recherches sur les villas.
