Circulation et réception de l’iconographie de Bunshō le saunier (Bunshō zōshi 文正草子)

日 本 で は 、 17 世 紀 か ら 18 世 紀 半 ば に か け て 、 絵 巻 や 冊 子 形 態 の 奈 良 絵 本 が 多 量 に 制 作 さ れ た 。 本 流 で は な い 無 名 の 絵 師 た ち に よ っ て 作 ら れ た こ れ ら の 作 品 は 、 様 式 的 な 巧 拙 の 度 合 い も さ ま ざ ま で 、 長 い 間 、 美 術 史 家 か ら 顧 み ら れ る こ と が な か っ た 。 本 論 文 で は 、 様 式 と 図 像 の 内 容 の 両 面 を 分 析 し て 、 あ る 一 つ の 物 語 の 図 像 の 流 布 を 検 討 す る 。 一 つ は 絵 巻 物 で 、 も う 一 つ は 冊 子 本 で あ り 、 両 者 と も 写 本 の 形 態 で 伝 え ら れ て い る 。 こ の 物 語 は 、 『 文 正 草 紙 』 と 題 さ れ 、 江 戸 時 代 に は 大 き な 人 気 を 博 し た も の だ っ た 。 こ れ は 、 一 つ の 共 通 の モ デ ル を 出 発 点 と し て い る が 、 多 く の 工 房 で 生 み 出 さ れ 、 多 様 な 様 式 に の っ と り 、 物 語 の さ ま ざ ま な 解 釈 の 元 に 図 像 が 作 制 さ れ た も の だ っ た 。

Numerous paintings with texts, on scrolls or codex, were produced in Japan between the 17th and the middle of the 18th century. As those pictures were anonymous and produced by non-official workshops which show different levels of stylistic ability, art historians ignored them for a long time. By combining stylistic and iconographic analyses, this article focuses on the circulation of the iconography of a narrative between a handwritten form, the scroll, and another form, the codex, which illustrate a story well known in Edo time’s: Bunshō, the saltmaker. We will see how the iconography of this tale circulated between workshops and between manuscripts of different shapes, scrolls and codex. Although those manuscripts are inspired by the same model, they were produced by different workshops, and show different ways of interpreting and illustrating this tale.

De nombreuses peintures accompagnées de textes, sur rouleau ou sur codex, ont été produites au Japon entre le XVIIe siècle et le milieu du XVIIIe siècle. Anonymes, issues d’ateliers non officiels, et montrant des degrés d’habileté stylistique très variés, ces peintures ont longtemps été ignorées par les historiens de l’art. En conjuguant analyses stylistiques et iconographiques, cet article s’intéresse à la circulation de l’iconographie d’un récit particulier entre une forme manuscrite, le rouleau, et une autre, le codex. Ce récit, très apprécié à l’époque d’Edo, s’intitule Bunshō le saunier. Bien qu’ayant pour source un modèle commun, les peintures des rouleaux et codex du corpus abordé proviennent d’ateliers divers et délivrent, dans des styles variés, des illustrations et des interprétations différentes du récit.
