Reconstitution paléoenvironnementale des dynamiques paysagères durant le dernier millénaire aux abords du site archéologique de Kota Cina (Sumatra-Nord, Indonésie) : résultats préliminaires

Paleoenvironmental reconstruction of landscape dynamics during the last millennium around the Kota Cina archaeological site (North Sumatra, Indonesia) : Preliminary results. This research seeks to understand the past and present environmental dynamics involving the site of Kota Cina (North Sumatra), in relation to natural constraints and the history of human settlement in the region. Based on a morphostratigraphic and malacological study, a first stage in the reconstitution of palaeoenvironments in the vicinity of this site, dating to between the eleventh century and the fourteenth century AD, is suggested here. The novelty of this study lies in the implementation of a multi-proxy methodological approach in a region rich in archaeological sites but still lacking in palaeoenvironmental studies. Preliminary results highlight a changing environment over time. Sedimentary and malacological data indicate aggradation of the terrestrial environment into a marine environment from the beginning of the second millennium to modern times. This evolution also highlights the influence of the human factor on landscape transformations in the region.

Cette étude vise à comprendre les dynamiques environnementales passées et actuelles à proximité du site de Kota Cina (Sumatra-Nord, Indonésie) en liaison avec les forçages naturels et l’histoire des peuplements de la région. Une première étape de reconstitution des paléoenvironnements aux abords du site archéologique d’habitat ancien (XI-XIVe s.) de Kota Cina au cours du dernier millénaire est proposé à partir d’une étude morphostratigraphique et malacologique. L’originalité de cette étude consiste en l’application d’une approche méthodologique multiproxies dans une région du monde riche en sites archéologiques, mais pauvre en études paléoenvironnementales. Les résultats préliminaires mettent en évidence un environnement changeant au fil du temps. Les données sédimentaires et malacologiques attestent d’une aggradation du milieu terrestre sur le milieu marin depuis le début du millénaire, jusqu’à nos jours. Cette évolution met également en évidence l’influence du facteur humain dans les transformations paysagères de la région.
