Les substitutions tétraédriques de l'aluminium au silicium produisent une diffusion des rayons X en dehors des domaines de BRAGG. Ces diffusions sont concentrées sur des plans réciproques perpendiculaires au plan du feuillet passant par les lignes réciproques h k. Ce mode de diffusion indique que les substitutions forment des chaînes linéaires périodiques, parallèles à certaines directions principales du réseau bidimensionnel a-b. Le cristal se trouve divisé en domaines, caractérisés chacun par la direction suivant laquelle se développent ces chaînes. Les principaux domaines existants sont ceux où les substitutions sont alignées suivant les directions [10], [11] et [11]. L'étude de ces domaines montre que les chaînes de substitutions se groupent en séquences de 2, 4, 6 ou 8 unités et que la neutralisation des charges des ions potassium se fait par l'alternance de séquences pleines ou vides sur les deux couches adjacentes de feuillets voisins.
