. - We start to know a lot about Cassini's life ; but, who knows the real goal of their project behind the cartography of France ? Started under Colbert and Vauban, just after Descartes' new analysis of space, and finally achieved just before the Revolution whom it was a tool, this huge work seems to be as significant for the modern State history as the Encyclopedia and the general economy representation of the Nation. This article reflects some of the main problems among a research started one year ago upon map' history between 1680 and 1802. Wasn't it all the medium for general land planning until now (with the great State corps, the new contacts center- peripheria, the infrastructure network and the first urban analysis) ?

. - On a beaucoup parlé des Cassini mais peu du véritable enjeu du projet masqué par la cartographie générale de la France ; commencé sous Colbert et Vauban, immédiatement après Descartes, puis achevé à la veille de la Révolution dont il sera l'un des outils, ce travail semble être aussi important pour l'histoire des Etats modernes et de leurs politiques que l'Encyclopédie et les tableaux d'Economie. Cet article rend compte des principales questions soulevées par une recherche, commencée il y a un an, sur la Carte de 1680 à 1802. N'est-ce pas le creuset opératoire de tout l'aménagement du territoire jusqu'à nos jours (via les Grands Corps, les rapports centre-périphérie, les schémas d'infrastructure et les analyses urbaines) ?
