Stephanocephalus Kaup, 1871, presently containing four «neotropical» species, is in fact a Malagasan and monospecific genus : S. hostilis (Percheron, 1841) = Malagasalus honoratus (Kuwert, 1891), syn. nov. ; S. stellaris Kaup, 1869 = Didimus africanus (Percheron, 1844), syn. nov. (afrotropical) ; S. cazicus Kuwert, 1891 and S. columbinus Kuwert, 1891 belong to Leptaulax Kaup, comb, nov., and are probably L. bicolor (F.) and L. dentatus (F.) (indo-malaysian). The present state of knowledge on the genus Stephanocephalus is discussed.
