Contribution to the knowledge of the american species of Trichoton Hope, 1840, and description of four new species (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae). The american species belonging to the genus Trichoton Hope, 1 840, are revised and their aedeagi for the first time figured. Four new species belonging to this genus are described : Trichoton degallieri n. sp. and T. cerdai n sp. from Brasil, T. merkli n. sp. and T. roigi n. sp. from Argentina. The genus Trichoton sensu novo is found to be polyphyletic. A new subgenus Marcuzzichoton n. sgen. is created to receive two species, T. occidentale (Berg, 1883) and T. comarapense Marcuzzi, 1999, clearly separated from others Trichoton s. str. by pectinated basal protarsomeres. The genus Trichotoides Marcuzzi, 1954, n. syn., created to receive a species of the genus Scaptes Champion, 1886 : S. hintoni Kaszab, 1949, is found to be a synonyme of Ammodonus Mulsant & Rey, 1859. The binomen Ammodonus hintoni (Kaszab, 1949) n. comb., is proposed.

Les espèces américaines du genre Trichoton Hope, 1840, sont révisées et leurs édéages figurés pour la première fois. Le genre Trichoton sensu novo s'avère polyphylétique. Un sous-genre nouveau Marcuzzichoton n. sgen., est créé pour recevoir deux espèces bien caractérisées par les protarsomères basajix pectinés chez les mâles : T. occidentale (Berg, 1883) et T. comarapense Marcuzzi, 1999. Quatre espèces nouvelles sont décrites : Trichoton degallieri n. sp. et T. cerdai n. sp. du Brésil, T. merkli n. sp. et T. roigi n. sp. d'Argentine. Le genre Trichotoides Marcuzzi, 1954, n. syn., créé pour recevoir une espèce du genre Scaptes Champion, 1886, est un synonyme junior de Ammodonus Mulsant & Rey (1859) et le binom Ammodonus hintoni (Kaszab, 1949), n. comb., est proposé.
