Description of Escalonates narizensis n. gen., n. sp., from Venezuela (Coleóptera, Curculionidae). Description of the genus Escalonates n. gen., from Venezuela. The male is characterized by the basis of its rostrum separated from the head by a deep constriction and enlarged conically, fitting the anterior edge of the pronotum and thus limitating the upward motion of the head. Pronotum reliefs obsolete, elytral reliefs rounded, except those at the base of intervals 3 and 5 which are crest-like. Basal enlargement of the pronotum of the female thinner, extending backward in the middle, elytral reliefs more marked than in the male. For the time being, the only known species in the genus Escalonates is E. nazirensis, described below.

Description du genre Escalonates n. gen., du Venezuela, caractérisé par, chez le mâle, la base du rostre évasée en pavillon, venant s'adapter sur le bord antérieur du pronotum lorsque la tête est en extension, et séparée de celle-ci par une constriction profonde. Disque du pronotum à reliefs obsolètes, élytres à tubercules arrondis sauf ceux de la base des interstries 3 et 5 qui ont une forme en crête. Femelle à évasement basai du rostre plus mince, étiré en arrière au milieu, reliefs élytraux plus marqués que chez le mâle. La seule espèce actuellement connue du genre Escalonates est E. narizensis n. sp., décrite à la suite.
