Dans le cadre du programme MonacoBioDiv lancé par la Fondation Prince Albert II de Monaco et le Gouvernement Princier, nous avons pu prospecter les souterrains du Palais princier de Monaco, et nous y avons recueilli de nombreux cadavres d'un charançon proche d'Otiorhynchus (Lixorrhynchus) grenieri Allard, 1869, de Corse. L'examen de l'organe copulateur des mâles montre que ces exemplaires appartiennent à une espèce nouvelle, Otiorhynchus (Lixorrhynchus) monoecirupis n. sp., distincte de l'espèce corse ainsi que d'Otiorhynchus (Lixorrhynchus) nicaeicivis (Gozis, 1895), dont nous confirmons la validité et désignons le lectotype.
