In 1972, while ploughing deeply into the ground (La Bégude-de-Mazenc, Drôme), a hoard often stone axes was found. The axes had never been used and were rather big (seven of them measured from 20 to 35 cm long). They had all been shaped in the same factory, making use of a vein of diabase, a rock which can be found in the "schistes lustrés " on the Piedmontese side of the Alps. Most of these rocks are situated to the east of the limit of the watershed between France and Italy. Eight axes are spindle-shaped and a ring is engraved near the apex. They are the result of a remarquably mastered technique — the shape is perfect — and show a high degree of technology.

En 1972, un labour profond à La Bégude-de-Mazenc (Drôme) mettait au jour un dépôt de 10 haches polies n'ayant jamais été utilisées. De grande taille (sept de 20 à 35 cm), elles ont toutes été façonnées dans le même atelier exploitant un filon de diabase, roche verte qui se rencontre dans les schistes lustrés de la "zone piémontaise ", la plupart situés à l'est de la limite du partage des eaux entre France et Italie. Huit sont fusif ormes, à anneau piqueté dans le tiers apical et présentent une technique de fabrication et une finition remarquables.
