Le vase de fondation zoomorphe du Premier Âge du fer de Cuciurpula (Serra-di-Scopamene/Sorbollano, Corse-du-Sud)

The site of Cuciurpula (Serra-di-Scopamène/ Sorbollano, Corse-du-Sud), which has been excavated since 2008, is located in the Central-South Corsican mountains (Alta Rocca), about 3000 feet above sea level. It is one of the best preserved and known Early Iron Age settlements on the island. It was founded on the southern slope of an emblematic relief, with the dwellings organized in terraces and distributed over a scattered plan. The buildings are characterized by a clear homogeneity in shape and architectural features, presumably corresponding to a chronological and cultural homogeneity. The excavation of one of the structures, “ Ciuciurpula 1”, enabled the internal organization of the 7th-century BC housing structures to be clarified, not just on the site, but more generally in Southern Corsica, revealing the complexity and the originality of this kind of architectural plan and of the artefacts. This paper is aimed mainly at presenting a zoomorphic polypod vase discovered in the house foundation level, and setting it in its chronological, cultural and symbolic context.

Situé dans les montagnes du centre sud de la Corse (Alta Rocca), à près de 1 000 m d’altitude, et fouillé depuis 2008, le vaste gisement de Cuciurpula (Serra-di-Scopamène/ Sorbollano, Corse-du-Sud) est l’un des habitats du Premier Âge du fer les mieux conservés et les mieux connus de l’île. Implantées sur les versants méridionaux d’un relief caractéristique, les habitations organisées en terrasse se distribuent selon un plan très lâche mais présentent une nette homogénéité morphologique, architecturale et probablement chronoculturelle. La fouille de la structure domestique Cuciurpula 1 a permis d’appréhender de façon heuristique les caractères de l’organisation interne des habitations du VIIe siècle av. J.-C. sur le site et, au-delà, dans toute la zone méridionale de la Corse, en mettant au jour un équipement immobilier et mobilier complexe et original. Cette contribution vise essentiellement à présenter la découverte, dans la tranchée de fondation de cette habitation, d’un vase polypode zoomorphe que nous chercherons à replacer dans son contexte chronologique, culturel et symbolique.
