Sur un nouveau sulfure mixte d'erbium et de scandium de formule Sc2Er3S7

This apparently stoichiometric compound belongs to a solid solution series, the limits of which are Sc₁.₈Er₃.₂S₇ and Sc₂.₁Er₂.₉S₇. It has the same crystal structure as Y₅S₇, and the its cell parameters are : a = 12.29 Å ; b = 3.741 Å ; c = 11.26 Å and β = 104.9°. The powder pattern of the compound is given as for the other ternary sulfides of the same type, the two metals have a disordered arrangement on the octahedral sites. From a single-crystal structural study (R = 0.056) the proportions of atoms on the sites were obtained.

Ce composé, apparemment stœchiométrique, appartient à une solution solide dont les limites sont Sc₁,₈Er₃,₂S₇ et Sc₂,₁Er₂,₉S₇. Il est isotype de Y₅S₇ et sa maille a pour paramètres : a = 12,29 Å ; b = 3,741 Å ; c = 11,26 Å et β = 104,9°. Comme dans les autres sulfures mixtes du même type cristallographique, les deux métaux occupent les sites octaédriques en désordre statistique. L'étude cristallographique, effectuée sur un monocristal, a permis de connaître la répartition des atomes sur les différents sites (R = 0,056). Nous décrivons le diagramme de Debye et Scherrer de ce type de combinaisons.
