La variété rhomboédrique du sulfate ferrique Fe₂ (SO₄)₃ possède une structure très voisine du composé NaZr₂ (PO₄)₃. Fe₂ (SO₄)₃ est décrit dans le groupe spatial R[-3]. Les paramètres de maille sont a = 8,229 Å, c = 22,177 Å. De nombreux composés connus sont isotypes de Fe₂ (SO₄)₃ : M[III]₂ (SO₄)₃, M[III] = Al, Cr, Ga, V et M[II]Sn (SO₄)₃, M[II] = Mg, Mn, Co, Ni, Zn, Cd. Dans les phosphates, M[V]Ti (PO₄)₃, M[V] = Nb, Sb, Ta, et NbGe (PO₄)₃ ont ce type de structure.
