Sue Burrows et al., « Dynamic recrystallization. A comparison between magnesium and quartz », Bulletin de Minéralogie, ID : 10.3406/bulmi.1979.7257
Current theories of nucleation during static (post tectonic) recrystallisation are discussed, together with microstructural aspects of dynamic recrystallisation with particular reference to metals. The results of an investigation into the hot deformation of polycrystalline magnesium are presented and compared with observations on naturally deformed quartzites. The significance of the «Core and Mantle » structure which is seen in both materials is discussed. Whilst certain aspects of the deformation appear to be common to both metals and minerals, care must be taken when interpreting the microstructures of minerals in terms of metallurgical models which are often too simplistic and unproven.
