Antoine-Nicolas Dauphin and the music chamber in the Arsenal, by Martine Lefèvre The music chamber in the Bibliothèque de l’Arsenal has a sumptuous rocaille decoration, which was restored in 2006-2007 with the help of theWorldMonument Fund. The discoveries made on that occasion, as well as gleanings from the historical sources, provide details about the different participants : Germain Boffrand was responsible for the architecture, the sculptors Louis-Anne Engrant and Pierre Lange for the decoration of the apartment, working under the direction of the architect Antoine-Nicolas Dauphin, who lived there. The music chamber was finished in 1753 and, at the end of 1756, was attributed to the Marquis de Palmy, who completed the decoration ; it is he who had the lunettes over the doors painted in grisailles representing the Four Seasons, inspired by the low reliefs on the fountain on the rue de Grenelle, sculpted by Edme Bouchardon.
