As the largest production in the world, the cultivation of mussels in Galicia enjoys a certain tradition and great importance. In this article, the main caracteristics and problems of the sector are explained, especially the sudden price drop and lower quality of the product. These problems are caused not only by market conditions, but by the overexploitation of some rias, thus causing serious damage to the mussel and the marine ecosystem in general.

Bénéficiant d’une solide tradition et affichant d’importants résultats, la Galice est la première région productrice de moules au monde. Dans cet article, on présente les principales caractéristiques du secteur et les problèmes qu’on y observe, en particulier la chute des prix et la baisse de la qualité. En plus des conditions du marché, la raison essentielle tient dans la sursaturation de certaines rias qui nuit aussi bien au mollusque bivalve qu’à l’écosystème marin.
