From the end of Colonial Policies to the Opening of European Prospects ; the Economic Relationships of Bordeaux and the Overseas Ports and Territories (1948-1997). During the half-century when the «Cahiers d'Outre-Mer» expanded and became widely known, Bordeaux, without having either wished or sought it, had to confront a change of great magnitude in order to face as best as it could the challenges of a world in rapid transition and development. For a port that, until then, had functioned in a colonial setting of economic activity, decolonization could not fail but be a harsh blow, and for a city that was traditionally oriented towards the exploitation of tropical Atlantic spaces extending from the Antilles to West Africa, the national decision taken to favor European development inevitably produced an effect of relative rétrogradation for it. The object of this paper is thus to propose an evaluation, which of necessity must be brief and partial, of the main commercial consequences produced by such a change in the economic prospects of Bordeaux, and to show that, above and beyond the appearances of maritime decline that is attested to by the reappropriation by the city of the former port facilities between the Stone Bridge andAquitania Bridge, efforts have been made for a new start.

Dans le demi-siècle qui voit l'épanouissement des Cahiers d'Outre-Mer, Bordeaux a dû, sans l'avoir voulu ou cherché, affronter une mutation de grande ampleur afin d'assumer tant bien que mal les défis d'un monde en changement rapide. Pour un port dont tout le développement avait été jusque-là pensé dans le contexte impérial, la décolonisation ne pouvait être qu'une rude épreuve ; et pour une ville tra¬ ditionnellement tournée vers la valorisation des espaces tropicaux atlantiques, des Antilles à l'Afrique de l'Ouest, l'option nationale prise désormais en faveur de la construction européenne ne pouvait être que vivement ressentie par un effet de margi¬ nalisation relative à peu près inévitable. L'objet de cet article est donc de proposer un bilan nécessairement rapide et partiel des principaux effets commerciaux générés par un tel renouvellement de ses perspectives économiques, et de montrer, au-delà des apparences de déclin maritime dont témoigne la réappropriation urbaine actuelle des anciennes emprises portuaires entre pont de Pierre et pont d'Aquitaine, les efforts développés en vue d'un nouveau départ.
