- The Relatos del Viejo Antonio (1998) by Subcomandante Marcos are based on an antagonism between the Indians and the non-indians. This antagonism is at odds with the EZLN stance in favour of a pluri-ethnic society. At the same time, the language used in the tales is more in conformity with this pluri-ethnic position. This tension in the zapatist discourse can be interpreted as a conflict between utopia and reality, in the sense that the discrimination of the indigenous population is conducive to a rhetorics of idealisation while the future construction of society requires a more hybrid discourse.

RÉSUMÉ- Les Relatos del viejo Antonio (1998) du Sous-commandant Marcos partent d'un antagonisme entre les indiens et les non indiens qui contredit les affirmations du EZLN en faveur d'une société pluriethnique. En même temps, les récits sont rédigés dans une interlangue qui appuie les affirmations en question. Cette tension dans le discours se comprend à la lumière de la tension entre la réalité et l'utopie : la discrimination des indiens entraîne leur idéalisation tandis que la projection d'une société future incite à construire une langue plus hybride.

RESUMEN- Los Relatos del viejo Antonio (1998) del Subcomandante Marcos parten de un antagonismo entre los indígenas y los no indígenas que entra en contradicción con las afirmaciones del EZLN a favor de una sociedad pluriétnica. Simultáneamente, las narraciones se escriben en una lengua que apoya dichas afirmaciones. Esta tensión en el discurso literario se entiende por la tensión entre realidad y utopía : la discriminación de los indígenas conduce a su idealización mientras que la proyección de una sociedad futura incita a construir una lengua más híbrida.
