Identity, communication and intercultural contacts. Identity is built within interaction systems (symbolic, domestic, cultural and social) where the individual is located and identifies himself as the subject in a dialectic between The Other and The Same, between The Inside and The Outside, between The Individual and The Collective. In this definition, individual identity appears, at one and the same time, as the product, the condition and the goal of the communication. It lies within the scope of interactive strategies in which it tries to be acknowledged through mechanisms of assimilation and differentiation. Intercultural contacts constitute a field which is favourable to the observation and the study of this question. (The example analysed here is that of Franco German exchanges).

L'identité se construit à l'intérieur de systèmes d'interactions (symbolique, familial, culturel et social) où prend place et se constitue le sujet dans une dialectique de l'autre et du même, de l'intérieur et de l'extérieur, de l'individuel et du collectif. L'identité apparaît dans cette perspective à la fois comme le produit, la condition et l'enjeu de la communication ; elle s'inscrit au sein de stratégies interactives où elle cherche à se faire reconnaître au travers de mécanismes d'assimilation et de différenciation. Les rencontres interculturelles constituent un domaine propice à l'observation et à l'étude de cette problématique (l'exemple analysé ici est celui de stages franco-allemands).
