This article analyzes Dawn Raffel's Carrying the Body, looking at its narrative structure and techniques, trying to place the novel within a larger literary context. It discusses the pervasive use of the imperative and the compulsive proliferation of the interrogative mode, the extensive repetitions, the syncopated, autistic functioning of the dialogues and the lyrical lilt of the monologues. A certain number of relevant intertexts are taken into account, from Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher and Dickens’ Great Expectations to Chekhov’s Three Sisters.

Cet article propose une analyse du roman Carrying the Body de Dawn Raffel du point de vue de sa structure narrative et de ses stratégies discursives, tout en le plaçant dans un contexte littéraire plus vaste. L’article discute l’usage généralisé de l’impératif et la prolifération irrépressible du mode interrogatif, le fonctionnement autiste des dialogues et la cadence lyrique des monologues.
