Résumé En

The aim of this paper is to discuss the importance of the Catalans from Roussillon who lived on Cyprus in the xivth and xvth centuries. A first part deals with the problem of their nationality during the existence of the kingdom of Mallorca and the French occupation of the county between 1462 and 1493. A second part puts in light the nobles and clerics of Roussillon and Cerdanya who sojourned in the Aphrodite’s island during the Late Middle Ages. Several unedited documents contribute to evoke the travel to Cyprus of the Infant Ferran of Mallorca, who spoused in 1340 the princess Eschiva of Lusignan. The Catalan archives reveal the descendants of Ferran as well as the names of several merchants who were involved in the Cypriot trade at the turn of the xvth century. They used the two carracks chartered by the patriciate of Perpignan in order to compete with the ships of Barcelona. A last section evaluates the intensity of the commercial links tied between the ports of Roussillon and those of Cyprus thanks to the involvement of local businessmen.
