Well known are the great Mosan goldsmiths' worskshops in the third quarter of the XIIth century and many scientific researches were made about Godefroid of Huy. However, in a so difficult and complex affair, it is possible to discover some elements untill now neglected by the collecting and study of all the historical sources, indispensable way for the chronology and knowledge of the Mosan art. Godefroid became canon in the monastery of Neufmoustier near Huy about 1172. He executed the shrines of the collegiate church of Huy for the elevation of the relies of the saints Domitien and Mengold, patrons of the Mosan town. The reliquiary of saint John the Baptist offered by the goldsmith to the Neufmoustier was losed in the XIIth century. The relations between Amalric of Sidon and Wibald of Stavelot were supported by some new hagiographie arguments, as the lists of relies of Neufmoustier.

Des ateliers d'orfèvrerie importants illustrèrent le pays mosan dans le troisième quart du XIIe s. La personnalité de l'orfèvre Godefroid de Huy retient depuis longtemps l'attention des chercheurs. Pourtant un dossier si complexe permet encore des découvertes intéressantes quand on réunit toutes les sources historiques disponibles, quand on les compare et qu'on les analyse ; les remettre dans leur contexte historique assure en plus des points d'ancrage indispensables pour la chronologie et l'étude de l'art mosan. Godefroid devint chanoine du monastère de Neufmoustier près de Huy vers 1172. Il réalisa les châsses de la collégiale de Huy pour l'élévation des reliques des saints Domitien et Mengold, patrons de la ville mosane. Le reliquaire de saint Jean-Baptiste qu'il offrit au Neufmoustier fut perdu au XVIIe s. Ses relations avec Amalric de Sidon et Wibald de Stavelot sont étayées par une série d'arguments hagiographiques jusqu'ici ignorés telles les listes de reliques du Neufmoustier.
