Résumé En

A.-M. Pillet-Schwartz—An Aborted Attempt at Vulgarisation: Small-Scale Rubber Cultivation in the Ivory Coast. The development of rubber cultivation in the Ivory Coast is essentially based upon large-scale plantations owned and exploited by foreign capitalist firms in association with Eburnean State corporations (SODE). Nevertheless an attempt was made, in 1968-1970, to experiment with smallholdings, on the Malayan-Indonesian pattern, among Atie and Ebrie planters in the Lagoon region, west of Abidjan. The author analyses the factors which resulted into an overall failure of the experiment.
