Abstract: Among the illustrious scholars with whom Machavelli filled his mind at the Cour des Antiques in his study of Sant'Andrea de Percussina, the figure of Thucydide stands apart. As regards the parameters of the dialogue thus promoted by the Florentine's thought with the knowledge at the disposal of the Ancient historian, this essay intends to assess the difFerent interpretations used by the XXth century critics to understand its terms, according to the epistemological paradigms structuring their own reading, especially in confronting the period of « modernism » at the begining of the century with the period of « post modernism » at the end.

Résumé : Parmi les illustres savants dont l'esprit de Machiavel s'imprégnait à la cour des Antiques dans son cabinet de Sant'Andrea de Percussina se distingue la figure de Thucydide. En ce qui concerne les paramètres du dialogue qu'a instauré la réflexion du Florentin avec les savoirs dont disposait l'historien antique, le présent essai entend évaluer les différentes interprétations que les critiques du XXe s. ont mises en œuvre pour en comprendre les termes, selon les paradigmes épistémologiques structurant leurs propres lectures, en particulier en confrontant la période « moderne » du début du siècle à la période « post-moderne » de sa fin.
