Résumé En

Between 19th November 1789 and 5 th January 1792, the Quebec Gazette, a four-page weekly newspaper, published the text of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen four times. This interest shows the extent to which the changes brought by the Revolution to the old continent were approved by the inhabitants of this former French territory, conquered by Britain in 1760-63 and living since 1774 under the yoke of the Quebec Act. By publicizing the Declaration, they were encouraging political change in a colony which was deprived of the most fundamental institutions and rights.
