Corrado Rosso : Non-existent and true revolutions according to Montesquieu. This article questions the existence of a true revolutionary doctrine in Montesquieu's thought. An analysis of certain passages in Montesquieu's works leads to the conclusion that such a doctrine, in its pure theoretical form, is an abstract or ambiguous notion. For Montesquieu a true revolution can only consist in the scandal and shock caused by a sociological approach to reality which tries to explain what is inexplicable and justify what is unjustifiable.
