Edith Flamarion and Catherine Volpilhac-Auger : Present state of research and current trends : the source as a mirror. Where and how is research currently being conducted on the presence of classical Antiquity in the 18th Century ? This article looks at current research trends, the policy of different centres and research teams and the methods adopted, and the authors discern two main approaches : one of them studies the remnants of Antiquity in a particular period, while the other concentrates on how the reference to Antiquity worked ; it was remodelled by the Enlightenment in its own image and in return helped to shape the Enlightenment as we know it.
