Résumé En

The archives of the Congregation of the Faith in Rome contain documents concerning the condemnation of Rousseau's Emile (1762) and Robinet's De la Nature (1761). Here we present a French translation of the Holy Office reports, written in Italian and Latin, on Emile, and the two censorship judgements concer¬ ning De la Nature. These documents, which associate Rousseau and Robinet in a single condemnation, throw light on the reasons for the Catholic Church's hostility towards the French Enlightenment.
