The main characteristics of spoken language such as described by Hermann Wunderlich (1893 ; 1894 ; 1897 ; 1898) are the tendency to economy and on the other hand the tendency to redundancy. Wunderlich describes spoken language from the speaker's point of view.

Les caractéristiques fondamentales de la langue parlée, telles qu'elles ressortent des principaux ouvrages de Hermann Wunderlich (1893 ; 1894 ; 1897 ; 1898) , sont la tendance à l'économie des moyens linguistiques et simultanément la tendance à la redondance. Wunderlich décrit le fonctionnement de la langue parlée en situation du point de vue du locuteur.
