Die Selbstverteidigung hat von vornherein einen irrationalen Charakter, den die durch die stark ansteigende Anzahl solcher Fàlle ausgelöste politische Diskussion nicht zu verringern mag. Das Phänomen deutet im Grande auf eine zweifache Entwicklung hin, den Ruckzug des Staates von der Gewährleistung des Privateigentums einerseits, die Entwicklung der finanziellen Kompensation fur Diebstahl andererseits. Die beiden Entwicklungsprozesse sind nicht deckungsgleich, was zur Folge hat, dass einige soziale Schichten plötzlich ohne Behelf vor dem Abbau der gesetzlichen Garantie stehen. Deshalb ist die im Zuge des "Poujadisme" auferstandene Selbstverteidigung als Bezeugung einer sozialen Ausgeschlossenheit zu verstehen.

In fact, the phenomenon results from a double evolution, on the one hand, the backing off of the State from its function of protector of private property, on the other hand, the development of a system of financial compensation for thiefs. The two procedures do not coincide : which means that certain social categories find themselves suddenly without recourse against the weakening protection of the law. Because of that, one can understand that auto-defence seems to follow in the path of poujadisme, as the manifestation of social exclusion.

L'autodéfense présente a priori un caractère d'irrationalité, que le débat politique enclenché par la multiplication des actes ne parvient pas à réduire. En fait le phénomène renvoie à une double évolution, le retrait de l'Etat de sa fonction de garant de la propriété privée d'une part, le développement de pratiques de compensation financière aux vols d'autre part. Entre les deux processus, il n'y a pas recouvrement ; ce qui fait que des couches sociales se trouvent subitement sans recours contre l'effacement de la garantie de la loi. A partir de là on peut comprendre que l'autodéfense s'inscrive, dans la mouvance du poujadisme, comme la manifestation d'une exclusion sociale.

De zelfverdediging heeft bij voorbaat een irrationeel karakter en het politiek debat dat door de toename van het verschijnsel werd ingezet, kan dat niet indijken. In feite wijst de zelfoerdediging op een dubbele evolutie : de staat die zich terugtrekt als beheerder van de privaat-eigendom enerzijds en de ontwikkeling van de praktijk van financiële vergoeding bij diefstal anderzijds. Maar deze twee pro- cessussen overlappen elkaar niet. Dit heeft als gevolg dat bepaalde sociale lagen plots zonder verhaal zijn tegen het verdwijnen van de wettelijke waarborg. Men kan derhalve begrijpen dat de zelfoerdediging een uiting wordt van sociale uitsluiting en dit in de context van de poujadistische stroming.
