Kriminalstatistiken sind grundsätzlich Statistiken iiber gerichtliche Aktivitäten. Im franzosischen Fall bezieht sich ihre Entwicklung im 19. Jahrhundert besonders auf die Bewegungen innerhalb des Justizsystems. Die besondere Betonung individueller Eigenschaften der Verurteilten in der Kriminologie ignoriert diese Beschränkungen. Diese Ignoranz führte nach 1932 zu einem zusammenbruch der statistischen Produktion.

Criminal statistics are related to judicial activity. Their development in France during the nineteenth century focused primarily on providing a better description of the internal flows through the criminal justice system. Judging them using a theoretical criminological model which focuses on individual characteristics ignores these constraints. This ignorance brought in its train the collapse of the production of such statistics after 1932.

De criminele statistiek is uit beginsel de statistiek van de gerechtelijke activiteiten. In Frankrijk is de ontwikkeling in de negetiende eeuw van deze statistiek hoofdzakelijk ge- axeerd op de interne gegevensflux van de strafrechtsbedeling. De criminologische valori- sering van de (individuele) persoonlijke kenmerken van veroordeelen leidde de ontken- ning van de invloed van de werking van het strafsbedelingssysteem. Deze ingeslagen weg leidde, na 1932, tot een verwaarlozing van de produktie van statistieken.
