Until the eighties, the dynamics of the agribusiness world trade seemed largely dominated by two industrialized economies : the United States which had quasi a monopoly on the world markets and the European Union, which had, with the Common Agricultural Policy, engaged a process of correction and competition of the American monopoly. At the turning point of the eighties, new competitors appeared upsetting the hierarchy of nations in the world trade of agro foodstuff. This article endeavours to analyze the great movements which affected this dynamics and this hierarchy.

Jusque dans les années 80, la dynamique des échanges mondiaux de produits agricoles et alimentaires semblait largement dominée par deux économies industrialisées : les Etats-Unis, qui disposaient d'un véritable quasi-monopole sur les marchés mondiaux, et l'Union européenne qui avait, avec la Politique agricole commune, enclenché un processus de rattrapage et de contestation du monopole américain. Au tournant de la décennie 80, de nouveaux concurrents sont apparus, modifiant quelque peu la hiérarchie des nations participant à l'échange international de produits agroalimentaires. Cet article s'efforce d'analyser les grands mouvements qui ont affecté cette dynamique et cette hiérarchie.
