The serious difficulties that the Ethiopian agriculture faces are often evoked in the scientific literature and are regularly brought up front by each food crisis. However, the contemporary transformations of the Ethiopian agriculture are not that much studied, in their diachronic and spatial dimensions. Through a number of localized research works undertaken in the different rural areas of the country, this paper suggests a new methodical approach to the dynamics of the Ethiopian agrarian systems. By attempting a first thematic synthesis made on the basis of these thorough field works, as an example, it provides a thinking clarification concerning the transformations and the contradictions of the almost generalized use of the traction hitched up in this country.

Bien que les graves difficultés de l'agriculture éthiopienne soient souvent évoquées dans la littérature scientifique et régulièrement rappelées par chaque crise alimentaire, les transformations contemporaines de l'agriculture éthiopienne sont encore trop peu étudiées, notamment dans leurs dimensions à la fois diachronique et spatiale. A partir d'un certain nombre de travaux de recherche localisée, réalisés dans différentes régions rurales du pays, cet article propose une méthode d'approche renouvelée de la dynamique des systèmes agraires éthiopiens. En tentant, à titre d'exemple, une première synthèse thématique réalisée sur la base de ces travaux de terrain approfondis, il propose un éclairage repensé sur les transformations et les contradictions de l'usage quasi-généralisé de la traction attelée dans ce pays.
